Technetium Tc
Where is technetium used--or where does it impact our everyday lives?
Technetium Symbol: Tc
Atomic number: 43 Atomic mass: 98
At room temperature: Solid
Where on Periodic Table: Group 7 Period 5 a d-block element
Melting Point: 2157 °C (3914.6 oF)
Boiling point 4265 °C (7709 oF)
Density: 11.5 g/mL
Reaction with air (O2): It tarnishes only very slowly in moist air
When heated with oxygen the result is technetium (VII) oxide, (Tc2O7)
Reaction/solubility in water: Technetium does not react with water under normal conditions.
Other:
This element, found in several different types of stars, is extremely rare.
Technetium serves a key role in nuclear medicine.
The word technetium comes from the Greek technetos, artificial.
