Cadmium Cd
Where is cadmium used--or where does it impact our everyday lives?
Cadmium compounds are brghtly colored and paints with cadmium pigments are used in the Art Rooms at WIS--photographed here in the cupboard of Art teacher Ms. T. The cadmium yellow pigment in the acrylic paint is due to the presence of cadmium sulfide, CdS. The red pigment in cadmium red is due to cadmium selenide, CdSe.
Cadmium in cadmium telluride is used as a semi conductor in photo-voltaic solar cells
Cadmium is used in compounds with tellurium (a semi metal) for use in solar panels. Some solar panels are gallium arsenide, GaAs, and others are CdTe, cadmium telluride
The photo shows solar panesl on the roadside of the I-95 north in Virginia, USA
