Gold Au

Where is gold used--or where does it impact your everyday life?

Used in jewelry--it is a very soft, easily worked metal that does not tarnish

!!th grade students holding a sample of gold foil or gold leaf.  Gold is extremely malleable.  It can be beaten to form a very thin sheet--a millionth of a centimetre thick.  Paper is 100 times thicker.

Because of its lack of reactivity, gold is used in coinage.

Here Felina dW wears a half sovereign as a ring.  The half sovereing is ~4 g gold and made of 22 carat gold which is ~92% pure gold.

In Ian Fleming's James Bond book Goldfinger, the villain Auric Goldfinger had a licence tag AU 1 on his Rolls.  This licence plate was seen in a Wegmans parking lot in Gainsville.  Those knowledgeable in chemistry are aware that gold can form two valency (combining) states: gold I and gold III and gold's symbol is Au.
