Activity #1

 

Using this link, and any external printed references, define the following terms: protostar, life cycle, main sequence star, red giant, white dwarf, black dwarf, supernova, neutron star, pulsar, black hole, fusion, element, isotope, X-ray, gamma-ray.

 

Find images of three from the above list and describe the images in your own words (Name the object, state what was used to obtain the images (both telescope name and type of electromagnetic energy used to obtain the image) and cite your sources.)

 

Find examples of a different three and name them PLUS state where they would be seen (which constellation, etc.)

Activity #2

 

Using the background information in this link, (and additional cited sources of information from your library or the web), make your own labeled and annotated (with descriptions) diagram of the life cycle of a high-mass star.

Activity #3

 

It is very poetic to say that we are made from the dust of stars.  Amazingly, it’s also true!

 

In about 200 words, using this link--and any others you cite, explain with examples, why it is so.
